The Supra Express modem line has always been known for its quality and speed. This modem keeps the tradition alive by bringing us super fast connection speeds using the legendary Rockwell chip set.

Set up:

I would say setting up this modem is like setting up most others. Plug in the Serial cable, phone line, and AC adapter, and turn on the computer. Pop in the CD, install the modem scripts, and you are ready to get on the Internet.

Usage:

Once the software is installed, select the correct script in the Modem control panel, and sign on. With the V.90 and K56 flex support, you should have no problems between this modem and your ISP.

The biggest thing that will effect your connection speed will be your phone line quality. Nevertheless, the Rockwell chip set can somewhat overcome this obstacle. With my older 33.6k modems, the fastest I could connect was 26,400 bps. Now with the Supra Express modem, I connect consistently at 48,000 bps.

Although this modem is very fast and reliable, it does has some minor drawbacks. The first on is more of an aesthetic thing, this modem has no power switch. It was designed to remain on, but I still don't like that. I have always liked the ability to turn on and off my devices whenever I wish. The other hindrance is very minor, it only has four LEDs. One for power, one for connection status, one for sending data, and one for receiving data. Although some people may miss the extra LEDs, I feel that these four are, by far, the most important.

Some of you may be wondering, "What if I have a problem? I would like to be able to reset the modem." Well, Diamond though of that as well. They have built in a simple reset switch on the back of the modem. One touch of that button, and the modem is reset.

Problems:

I haven't encountered a single problem while using this modem. It connects at fast speeds, and doesn't deteriorate the connection later. It hasn't dropped a single connection since I've had it. Plus, it has easily connected to each of my Internet Service Providers.

Conclusion:

This modem was a great buy. With the fast connection speeds, it was almost worth loosing both of my 33.6k modems to a lightning strike. If you are looking for great speed, reliability, and quality, you are looking for the Supra Express.

Arbitrary Quote - I finally came up with a punishment for the boy. First, no leaving the house, not even for school. Second, no egg nog. In fact, no nog period! And third, absolutely no stealing for three months!
