Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE is the tuned down version of Adobe's flagship product, Photoshop. With the reduced price comes a reduced feature set. But, if you are looking for a good image editing program, and don't need too much, this program is for you.Installation:
Installing Photoshop LE is like installing any other Adobe product. It wants to install a ton of extra junk, which can be turned off in the installer, and you must go through the registration process. One thing I really liked about this is that after it was installed, the CD is no longer needed for usage; a nice change from most software packages.
Usage:Like all Adobe products, the learning curve is steep for this program. The tools have odd icons, the pallettes are obscure, and the menus are, to say the least, different. But, after using the program for a while, I got used to the controls, and figured out how to use them effectively.
One of the best features of Photoshop is the ability to use plug-ins. Photoshop LE is no different. You can use any plug-in designed for Photoshop. All you have to do is place it in the plug-ins folder, and select the new plug-in from the Filter menu.
Photoshop LE ships with dozens of plug-ins. From blurs, to sharpens, to neon signs, you can find almost everything you need. Anyone can become a digital artist by modifying images with these plug-ins.
Although the Limited Edition doesn't have quite as many features as the full version (check out this page for a comparison), it will introduce you into the world of digital images. After you master this program, you can go on to the full version if you like, with nearly no extra learning. This is the perfect graphics application for students.
Problems:The only problems found with this software was that it is very hard to use, at first. After enough practice, you can become accustomed to how the different pallettes and tools work. Also, learning how to use the plug-ins is no easy feat.
Conclusion:Adobe made a program that has a lot of bang for the price. Normally, Adobe's products are priced somewhere in the stratosphere. But Photoshop LE gives beginner artists, and those whom don't use graphics applicationss a lot, more than enough tools to get the job done.
