The Brenthaven Edge II laptop sleeve/case hybrid is designed with the MacBook Pro (15 inch) in mind. It's sleek, sturdy, lightweight, and can go through airport x-ray machines without being opened.

Usage:

When looking for a travel laptop case, there are four main aspects that most users will consider: size, weight, comfort, and storage. The Brenthaven Edge II fits the needs very well in the first three, but falls a bit short in the last area. The overall size of this is very small, really not much bigger than the laptop itself. At only 2.5 inches thick, it's about the width of a good book. This makes it very easy to stuff in another bag if you need to.

Not only is the Efge II small, but it feels nearly weightless. At just over 1 pound, it's the lightest laptop case (with shoulder strap) that I have ever handled. Combine that with a great shoulder strap that is very well padded, and it feels like I could carry around my laptop all day long with ease.

Unfortunately, the small size of this laptop case does come at a price, and that is storage space. The main compartment fits the laptop, and nothing else. There is a back document pocket, which is handy for magazines, borading passes, and pens, but nothing bulky. The other pocket is a front pocket that covers about a third of the surface area of the case. I put the MacBook Pro's power adapter with both lengths of cord, and that's pretty much all that will fit. I might be able to stuff a small set of headphones in as well, but I will need to put other cords/iPod in something else. If they would have extended the pocket to be the entire width of the case, there would have been plenty of room for everything I want to carry with my laptop.

Another consideration that cannot be overlooked is how well the case protects your laptop from occasional bumps or drops. I haven't actually tested how well it will stand up to a 3 foot drop, but the case does feel very sturdy and well padded. I believe that it will offer excellent protection for my MacBook Pro.

Finally, this case offers two features not seen on the majority of laptop cases. The first is the workstation mode. When you open the case, the side that flips out has some rubber feet to help ensure your laptop doesn't overheat while it's being used inside the case. The other feature (which I now consider a must have) is the ability to send the laptop through airport security without taking it out of the case. The FAA has recently changed the security measures for laptop bags, such that certain bags no longer have to be opened to send through the x-ray machine. I'm all for anything that reduces the hassle of going through airport security.

Conclusion:

I'm really enjoying this laptop sleeve. It has reduced my shoulder load by over a pound (compared to my old laptop case), and fits the MacBook Pro better than I could have imagined. I can't wait take it on a plane and not have to open up the case.
