Speed Download 1.0 ![]()
| System Requirements: PowerMac with Mac OS 8.1 or later | Price: $15 |
| The creator of Speed Download had a great idea, to make it so users can download files faster. But a great idea doesn't make a great program. While your milage can vary, I found this program to make the downloads slower, rather than faster. However, with its heavy configuration ability, I may have missed something, which prevented the faster downloads. If it really made my downloads faster, it would be great, however I think it needs much more work before that will ever happen. | |
SafeDog/ SafeCat ![]()
| System Requirements: PowerMac | Price: $8 |
| SafeDog and SafeCat are two programs that presumably could save your pet's life! By letting you store valuable information such as vet's name, medical history, training charts, and much more, anyone who takes care of your dog will know what to do if something goes wrong. Leave a printed copy with your groomer, broader, or just the family next door, so the next time you are away, you know your pet will be safe. | |
Earth Rowser 1.3.3 ![]()
| System Requirements: PowerMac with Mac OS 8.0 or later, Quicktime 4, Internet connection, 18 MB RAM | Price: $19.95 |
| Earth Browser is a fun little application in which you can watch the world spin, showing you current weather conditions, time, clouds, sunglight, and much more. While it would be most helpful if you were traveling, it's still a ton of fun just to watch the world turn in real time. | |
G4 Strip 1.1.3 ![]() | |
| System Requirements: G3 or G4 | Price: $10 |
| G4 Strip provies a quick and easy way to adjust backside cache, shows the CPU temperature, CPU type, and perfomance tests. All this in one easy to use control strip module. Plus, it can be used with powerbooks to conserve battery power, squeezing out that last bit of juice on the battery. While this is a very helpful application, a $10 price seems kinda steep for something you can do for free with multiple applications. | |
Anagrams 2.0 ![]() | |
| System Requirements: Any Mac with Mac OS 7.1 or later | Price: $15 |
| Anagrams 2.0 is a fun little application that will takes words and phrases, reagrange them, and come out with new words and phrases. This is alot of fun to do with your name, your favorite quote, or anything else. Some of the stuff it comes up with is just hilarious. | |
Fortune Cookie 2.0 ![]()
| System Requirements: PowerMac, Mac OS 7.0 or later, 5MB RAM | Price: $0 |
| When I first downloaded this program, I thought it would be alot of fun to see what my fortune would be everyday. Unfortunately, the interface is so terrible, I ended up throwing it away. You had to click more times that hitting control-alt-delete in Windows, and the fortunes really sucked. One or two words forunes really don't do it for me. | |
PageSpinner 3.0 ![]() | |
| System Requirements: Any Mac with Mac OS 7.1 or later, 6 MB disk space, 2.5 MB RAM | Price: $29.95 |
| If you want to make web pages, but don't know HTML, then you need a WYSIWIG editor. While these programs can cost upwards of $100, PageSpinner brings you all of the power of a commercial editor for a fraction of the cost. It can do HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, Server Side Includes, and much more. But, as with any HTML editor, you it does make mistakes. Usually the only way to fix these mistakes is by knowing HTML. Even so, this program will get you started making web sites in no time. | |
Alarm Clock Pro 2.0.5 ![]()
| System Requirements: PowerMac with 5 MB free RAM | Price: $5 |
| One of the most missed programs since OS 8.0 has been the alram clock. When Apple decided to remove this program, they removed something very useful. Luckily, this program fills the gap quite nicely. With a bunch f different timers, alarms, and file types to play, this program is near perfect. It will be my alarm clock program from now on. | |
Slide Rule 2.5 ![]() | |
| System Requirements: Any Mac with at least a 68020 processor, System 7.0 or later, 240k of free ram | Price: $10 |
| Finding the Apple calculator too simple? Need conversions, trig, scientific functions, and more? Than you need Slide Rule. With 12 digits, and up exponentials up to 999, you can hold almost any number in this thing. Plus, there are dozens of trig functions and conversions to go along with the scientific and normal operations. I have yet to see a better calculator than this. IT just may become the only calculator on your computer. | |
MPLAY 1.4.8 ![]() | |
| System Requirements: 68k or PowerMac | Price: $0 |
| MPLAY will play a variety of music formats, movie formats, and even display images, but it just doesn't do it very elegantly. Stuff like the track mixed, MP3 ID tag editor, and more, just don't work like they should. Plus, to change various aspects of playback, you have to go into the preferences menu instead of having an easy menu item shortcut. This small package may pack alot of punch, but I'm still sticking with Quictime player for now. | |
Clean-Install Assistant 1.5 ![]()
| System Requirements: Any Mac with MacOs 7.0 or above | Price: $0 |
| Every Mac user who has had to preform a clean install thought "there has to be a better way." With Clean-Install Assistant, there is. By using a special System Folder Addidtions folder, you can easily, and quickly do a clean installation of your Mac OS. This eliminates not only time, but also human error inforgetting what you do and don't need. Plus, it has the ability to to reproduceable clean installations, in a matter of seconds, over many machines. | |
Bombs Away 1.0 ![]() | |
| System Requirements: Any Mac with MacOs 7.1 or above | Price: $0 |
| Bobms Away is another one of those error code programs. Type in the error code, and it will spit out the error name, error type, and short description of the error. While this is very helpful in determining why an error is happening, it still does not give suggestions for resolutions. Once a program comes along with this ability, it will really be helpful. | |
Toolkit 1.2 ![]() | |
| System Requirements: PowerMac or 68k Mac. | Price: $7 |
| Toolkit is a useful program, but it's not worth the price. With features such as ScribblePad, MiniCalc, Wastebasket Emptier, Disk ejector, File-Info Checker, AppLauncher, System Info, Volume Menu, and shut down and restart abilities, it can be a real timesaver. But with it's large on screen presence, it gets in the way quite easily. If you are looking for a program to simplfy your Mac life, this may be it. | |
1 Liner 3.0 ![]() | |
| System Requirements: PowerMac with Mac OS 7.1 or later | Price: $0 |
| This program should be in the "Most Useless Software Ever" category. All it does is take paragraphs, put all the words on their own lines, in alphabetical order. It can also put them back in the paragrah, or make random paragraphs from the words. I cannot see why anyone would need this, but someone, somewhere may get a kick out of it. I think it would be much better if they included jokes, like the name implies. It doesn't even have a custom icon for goodness sake! | |
HTML Converter 1.0.2 ![]()
| System Requirements: 68k or PowerMac, Mac OS 7.1 or later, 2 MB RAM | Price: $0 |
| When I downloaded this program, I thought I was going to have a real winner on my hand. I was wrong. Although this program does convert special characters into their html code counterparts, it doesn't do it very well. First, you have to drop a html file onto the program to make it change characters. Then, it will only change certain ones. It would have been a much better program if it would have a special character reference, or something similar. | |
