SoundJam MP 2.0
System Requirements: PowerMac, 6MB Free RAM Price: $0
SoundJam MP is the imensly popular MP3 player for the Mac. Up until now, this MP3 player costs money. Well, now they decided to release it for free (with a Pro version costing $40)! I have tried many different MP3 players over the past few weeks, and I must say, this one beats every other player hands down. It's customizable in every way imaginable, plus it has the biggest repository for Plug-ins. Don't settle for anything less.
The Throbbers
System Requirements: IE4, IE5, Netscape 4, Mozilla Price: $0
Are you sick of those ugly default spinning globes, spinning e's, and meteor showers that tell you a page is loading in your browesr? If so, run, don't walk, to get one of these throbbers. Currently, there are iMac, G4, the Apple symbol, and the Quicktime symbol available. I have been using the G4 throbber ever since the day I got IE5, and have loved it ever since.
Gravité 2.0
System Requirements: Power Mac, Mac OS 7.5.3 and up Price: $0
Gravité is a great control panel for April Fool's day. With this control panel installed, icons feel friction and gravity as they are dragged. There are many controls for setting how much friction and gravity is perceived. This CDEV produced no confilcts, and was tons of fun to play with.

MacAdvantage .0.5.3
System Requirements: Power Mac, Mac OS 8.5.1 or above, Applescript Price: $0
The AllAdvantage Program is no longer active. MacAdvantage is a cheat for the popular AllAdvantage program, and the not as popular ClickDough program. If you haven't signed up for either program, I suggest signing up for AllAdvantage. It is the better of the two programs. What MacAdvantage does is load web sites and move the mouse periodicaly. This way, you can let this program run while you are sleeping or away from the computer. In theory, this should work great, but it doesn't seem to. AllAdvantage only counts about half the time that you are running this. That is better than nothing, but not as good as really surfing the net. MacAdvantage is a good idea that still needs a little work.
Get The Point 1.0.1
System Requirements: 68030 and up, Mac OS 7.0 and up Price: $0
Get The Point is a program for caculating how many points (in Wieght Watchers terms) a meal uses. All you do is insert the calories, grams of fat, and grams of fiber, and it spits out the number of points. And unlike the sliding tool, this application calculates the points to the nearest tenth. If you are a member of the Weight Watchers program, you have to have this application.

AllAdvantage Viewbar 1.0
System Requirements: PPC, Mac OS 8.6 or later, 32 MB RAM, 800x600 screen res or greater Price: $0
The AllAdvantage Program is no longer active. The Alladvantage Viewbar is the long awated Mac version of the "get paid while you surf the web" client. The program is simple, you surf the web with either Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, and get paid. The only thing you have to put up with is this viewbar at the bottom (or anywhere you want to put it) of your screen that stands about 1 inch tall at a 832x624 screen resolution. You will get paid a modest amount that can be used to pay off your ISP, or for a little extra cash. One thing I should make clear, even with this viewbar downloading banners, my net connection speed does not suffer at all. The banner files are to small to have any effect. Just try it out, you'll like it.
OptimaHTML 2.0
System Requirements: PPC, Mac OS 7.0 or later, 2MB RAM Price: $10
OptimaHTML is a nice little program that optimizes web pages for faster downloading. It does this by removing uneeded code. On my home page, it took about .4 k of uneeded junk out. This may not seem like alot, but if you have 1000 pages that each get .4k taken out, you will have saved 400k. Also, since I do all my HTML by hand, this program really couldn't take out much. If you use one of those HTML builders, this program can be a lifesaver.
TattleTech 2.8
System Requirements: 68020 and up including PPC, Mac OS 7.0 or later Price: $15
TattleTech is an invaluable program. It reports on over 850 different aspects of your computer. Practically every detail you want is in here. Ranging from how much RAM is installed (including what size, speed, voltage, etc for each chip) to where and when you're computer was made, this thing tells it all. It's a great trouble shooting tool if you want to see what devices are, and which are not being recognized by your system. I have not found a single downside to this program.
Alarm Clock 2.0
System Requirements: 68020 and up including PPC, Mac OS 7.1 or later Price: $10
The name says it all for this simple application. Since the introduction of OS 8.0, there has been no alarm clock installed with the system. Well, this program fills the void. At the specified time (sorry, no seconds), it will sound your system alert sound twice, plus play a quictime video of your choice (if you want it to). There are some things wrong with this app. First, you HAVE to use the arrow buttons to increase/decrease the hours/minutes, you cannot type it in. Second, there is a volume bar, but it is constantly disabled. Third, you should be able to play a different sound rather than the alert sound. It gets confusing when the alert sound is played out of the blue. One last thing, I think $10 is WAY to much for an application like this.

Star Drive 3.5.8
System Requirements: 68020 and up including PPC, Mac OS 7.1 or later Price: $10
Star Drive is an application based screen saver. It features sleep corners, a single screen saver, and a security mode. Unlike most screen savers, you don't have to have any extensions installed to run it (although it gives you two dialog boxes upon opening if you don't have their extension installed). Also, when the screen saver is running, it doesn't prevent your computer from going to sleep. This is a big problem if you have a USB PCI card which causes sleep problems. Also, the one screen saver included is only a star feild fly-thourgh, nothing too advanced. This program really doesn't seem worth $10.
StayOn! 1.0
System Requirements: 68020 and up including PPC, 2 MB RAM, Mac OS 7.0 or later, Open Transport Price: $0
StayOn is a wonderful program for anyone with a dial-up internet account. StayOn pings a site (which can be set to your liking) after a certain time (which can also be set to your liking). This activity will keep you ISP from dropping your connection at times of interactivity. A very useful program indeed.
Extension Overload v4.7
System Requirements: 68020 and up including PPC, 2 MB RAM, Mac OS 7.0 or later Price: $0
Extension Overload is a very useful program. When It launches, it takes inventory of all you extensions and control panels (enabled and disabled), and gives you detail of all of them. If you don't like what that extension does, you can disable it on the spot, just like the Extensions Manager. Plus it gives short decriptions of what error codes mean, that are really only useful to programmers. Also, there is Easter Eggs, Keyboard shortcuts, Speed tips, and more. The biggest problem I see with this program is it's price. You can get many programs for free that do parts of this, but not any other all in one programs like this. You be the judge, free programs, or less complexity.
Game Ranger 1.0
System Requirements: PPC, Mac OS 7.5 or later, Internet connection Price: $0
GameRanger is a Mac-Only online gaming environment. It's a small application that sets you up with hundreds of other mac gamers, all ready to play one of the over 25 games that Game Ranger supports. It even lets you talk to other people with your voice via a voice chat feature (although I never got this to work. I have been using Game Ranger since it was first publicly available as a beta, and have never had a problem with it. It a great application that every Mac gamer should have.
PCIprober 2.0
PCI PowerPC Price: $0
PCIprober is a great utility for checking to see if your newly installed PCI card is working. It gives you all sorts on information for normal users, as well as programmers. It has even worked where Apple's System profiler has failed. The only bad thing is the unintuitive, clunky interface. A small price to pay for good information.
ZTerm 1.0.1
System Requirements: Color 68k or PPC, Mac OS 6.0.7 or later, 1 MB RAM Price: $0
ZTerm may be an old application, but it works great. ZTerm is a terminal emulation program. There isn't a very large market for these programs, which makes for free software, becasue terminals just aren't used that often. But if you ever need one, this program will handle everything you send at it with complete customization.

Arbitrary Quote - I finally came up with a punishment for the boy. First, no leaving the house, not even for school. Second, no egg nog. In fact, no nog period! And third, absolutely no stealing for three months!
