I can feel it, this will be a very hot topic for many weeks to come. Last night (or this morning, depending on where you live), Apple unveiled two new iMac Colors aptly named Flower Power and Blue Dalmatian. The feeling I have gotten from most people is summed up by one word, ugly. Not to mention the hundreds of people saying will will die because of this "blunder." I don't think so.

I admit, these two new colors are not the most beautiful I have seen. You can still get Indigo and Graphite models, on the low end/mid range and high end machines respectively. Plus, the specs of these new iMacs are nothing to scoff at. 400, 500, and 600 MHz G3, with large hard drives, New ATI RAGE 128 Ultra cards in the two higher end models, and adequate RAM. In fact, the iMac DV Special Edition is now starting to make my supped up 500 MHz G3 look slow. These could be the gaming iMacs everybody has been waiting for.
But those colors! Who is going to want these? Younger girls, that's who. Have you noticed how many articles recently have been about the lack of computer usage among girls? Well, that means that market is largely untapped, and Apple is jumping in head first. What do you think these girls are going to be asking for when their summer birthdays start rolling around? This could be the recipe Apple was looking for to increase their market share, without the Wintel crowd hogging all the sales for a couple months.

Also, have you noticed that 70's style clothing is coming back into style? The Flower Power iMac fits perfectly into this style. It will be the first personal computer for the 70's, just 40 years after the fact. However, these fads seem to come and go at will, and are over faster than they started. But that could also be good news for Apple. People will buy the Flower Power, the fad will go out, and then they will buy a new iMac to go along with the new style. Apple has created the perfect paradox.
Now, as for that Blue Dalmatian, I don't know exactly where that would fit in. However, those of us just wanting to be different, or enjoy looking into crazy dots, getting dizzy, may enjoy it. Also, you can find some many blue things these days, it's almost sickening, so you could accessorize how ever you like. In fact, I think this would work well in a dorm room.
While I don't know the absolute future, I don't think this will be a complete flop for Apple. They will be hitting some uncharted territory, putting their foot in the door before anybody else. Do you remember when the iMac first came out? Everybody thought it would be a flop, but that just did not happen. In fact, it was completely the opposite, becoming the hottest selling desktop for many months. People seem quick to judge Apple, again, but hopefully Apple can turn these naysayers into blubbering idiots.
