After 5 very good years of service, my aging G3 was finally getting a little too pokey for new software and games, and I finally decided I needed a new desktop. However, I didn't want a computer based on the aging G4 chip, I had to wait until Apple came out with the next generation of PowerMacs.
When the G5 was announced in June of 2003, I knew I had to have one. I got the money together, and order one in early August. Because of the massive backorders, I had to wait until the end of September to get my G5, but is was worth the wait.
This is one spectacular machine. It handles everything I throw at it with ease. Even after more than one year of use, it still feels as fast as the first day I got it. Rarely do I see the spinning beach ball, and I always have more than enough frames per second in any game. The only thing that could make it better would be a replacement for the Radeon 9800's fan, but that is another story.

I named this computer "Edrick" after the lead character in one of my all time favorite games, the original Dragon Warrior. I spent more time playing that game than almost any game when I first got my Nintendo (and many years afterwards). I recently beat the game again using my G5 and the Nintendo emulator RockNES.
The G5 makes a perfect companion to my iBook. The power of the G5 with the portability of the iBook makes a great combination. If I need something done fast, obviously the G5 will be the computer of choice. But if I need to get away from my desk for a while, the iBook allows me to do that. I don't know how people can live with only a laptop or only a desktop ;).

Arbitrary Quote - I finally came up with a punishment for the boy. First, no leaving the house, not even for school. Second, no egg nog. In fact, no nog period! And third, absolutely no stealing for three months!
